Tasting Notes from Celtic Whiskey Shop and Wines on the Green
Nose Black and red fruits such as blackberries and wild berries. Very earthy notes coming from the 'licorella' soils such as smoke, tar, leather and slate. Some hints of balsamic and mint are also present.
Palate Incredible depth and persistent mineral driven finish, elegant at the same time. Perfect balance of the oak with spices and fruity jammy flavours. Smooth, expressive, with a lingering finish.

Making Techniques Made from a blend of 100% Carignena grapes from 80-100 year old vines coming from 'The Les Tosses vineyard'. Yields range between 500-700 kg/hectare from steeply terraced vineyards of granite and quartzite shards. Manual harvest in small cases of 15kg. Grapes pass through a selection table to avoid poor quality bunches. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, temperature controlled at 28ºC. Wine kept for maceration 15-20 days before the malolactic fermentation . After this process the wine spends around 18 months in the new French oak barrels of the highest quality.

Awards and/or Press Quotes
Robert Parker 94 Points 'The 2004 Montsalvat is 100% Carinena sourced from 80-100 year old vines and aged for 18 monthsin new French oak. A glass coating opaque purple colour, it proffers a brooding aromatic array of scorched earth, mineral, leather, lavendar, plum, and blackberry. Opulent on the palate with a Reubenesque personality, the wine is dense, powerful, and succulent.'
Wine Spectator 92 Points. ‘Expressive flavours of kirsch, chocolate, liquorice and mountain herbs are balanced and focused in this well-crafted red. Has plenty of concentration, but stays graceful through the long finish.’
