Gold Medallist. A "farmer's" strength poteen, triple-distilled for a strong yet super-smooth flavour and made from pure Irish grain spirit. It was the first poteen to be legally available for sale in Ireland on the domestic market . Ireland's only spirit GOLD MEDAL winner at the 2003 International Wine & Spirit Competition. May be drunk straight, with mixers or as a contemporary slightly sweet cocktail base, having a hint of melon and vanilla. Knockeen Hills is the only triple-distilled range of Irish Poteens produced.
Explanation:-
In a letter from the Revenue Commissioners dated 4th July 1997, they advised that the House of Donohoe on the 7th March 1997 held a compounders (excise) licence which authorises the holder to act as a dealer in the products manufactured by him. As soon as the restriction on the sale of Irish Poteen was removed on that date, all poteen products manufactured by them would have been legally available for sale in Ireland.
Colour/Nose: Clear. Nose of sugared almond and vanilla and, with water, a tangerine apple lift.
Palate: Sweet as a nut. Lemon/cake flavours with menthol tingle. Dry on finish; touch of butter.
Conclusion: Miles away from the past illegal hooch, this is sophisticated spirit. Careful though.
