BenRiach distillery was founded in 1898 but closed shortly after in 1900. It remained silent until 1965 but during this period it still produced malted barley for neighbouring distilleries. Normally after such lengthy closure most distilleries would have been demolished or converted in to other uses. Acquired by Seagram in the late 70’s, a large Canadian Drinks company, production continued but when they merged with French Drinks company Pernod Ricard the distillery was sadly closed again in 2002 as the new company had too many distilleries in their portfolio. But the distillery was resurrected once more by Industry veteran Billy Walker. They produce a large range of whisky including peated malt whisky which is uncommon to Speyside these days.
