Jameson 18 Year Old

70 cl

This has to be one of our favourite Jameson whiskeys. We love it because it reminds us of some of the great heavy pot still whiskeys once produced at the Old Bow Street Distillery in Dublin, albeit a lot easier to drink. Varying styles of pot still whiskeys dominate this luxury blend, which has only a small amount of grain whiskey added to bring some extra smoothness. The casks are predominantly first fill sherry and refill bourbon which are carefully selected before being married for around six months in first fill bourbon casks. It's made in batches, so it differs a little from year to year. If you ask us this is a little more complex and spicy than Midleton Very Rare, so perhaps is a better buy if you like Irish whiskeys that have a good bit of sherry cask richness.

Tasting Notes from Celtic Whiskey Shop and Wines on the Green
Nose Great pot still character with a wonderful spicy, oily, floral aroma. Dried fruits and cocoa.
Palate Thick and oily with a pronounced pot still character. Hard to believe this is a blend. Flavours of Christmas cake, juicy tropical fruits, honey, and chocolate/mocha.

Dave Broom, Whisky Magazine 'Nose: Soft, rich, juicy: apricot, dried fruits, orange, butterscotch, hazelnut butter. Water brings out sherry, becoming chocolate and bourbon biscuit. Palate: A luscious, oily sweetness with a crisp solidity on the palate, then a burst of dried fruits, spices and citrus fruits. Finish: Rich, soft & honeyed. Comments: I could drink this all day. A classic Irish whiskey. 9/10'
