Glen Scotia is one of the unlikely survivors of the old Campbeltown whisky boom of the late 1800's. It was built in 1836 and has seen many owners and periods of closure. Fortunately it managed to survive and is now in the hands of the owners of Loch Lomonds distillery. Some investment has been made in new washbacks and after a silent period it has been in production since 1999, albeit sporadic and nowhere near full capacity. Given the popularity of nearby Springbank it is entirely possible that under the right direction Glen Scotia can do well. That remains to be seen, but hopefully the coming years will give us some interesting bottlings from them. There are two pot stills and it has the potential to make 750,000L per year.
