Brora

Brora used to be named Clynelish before a new distillery was built by the common owners in the same vicinity. It was decided that the new distillery would take the Clynelish name and the old distillery was renamed Brora. It was founded in 1819 but originally closed in 1968 only to reopen the following year producing a peated malt to cover a shortage of Islay whisky at the time. It remained open and made a less peaty style up until its final closure in 1983.
