Tasting Notes from Celtic Whiskey Shop and Wines on the Green
Nose | lively aromas of black berries, black pepper and bitter chocolate. |
Palate | Pure and focused aromas follow through to the mouth. Lovely bright acids and fine yet tight tannins provide the ideal framework to a palate that is both long and pure. This wine has the intensity and power without ever feeling rich or heavy. |

Making Techniques | The many parcels making up this wine were crushed into and fermented in three, five, seven and 10 tonne open top vessels. Regular pump overs three times daily were performed during the peak of fermentation to extract flavours, colour and tannins. At pressing, the free run and pressings were combined to tank, then racked to barrel for oak maturation where malolactic fermentation occurred. All batches were kept separate and blended just prior to bottling. Matured for 12 months in French oak of which 8% was new and the remainder in two to six year old oak. |

Awards and/or Press Quotes
Robert Parker 91 Points | 'The 2010 Gnarly Dudes Shiraz has a deep purple-black colour and an intense nose of blackberry preserves, blueberry pie and fruit cake with suggestions of ground cinnamon, cumin seed, fenugreek and mace.Full bodied with a generous amount of rip, forward berry and spice flavour, the richness is nicely contrasted by crisp acid and a medium to firm level of roundness of tannins, finishing long and spicy. Approchable now, it could keep to 2019+' |
Wine Spectator 91 Points | 'Dark and brooding, with blackberry, cherry and gentle spice flavours unfolding on the smooth, meaty frame. The finish persists against velvety tannins.' |
