Hawkes Bay

Hawke's Bay is the oldest wine region isn Australiaand the second largest after Marlborough. The region is New Zealand's eading producer of full-bodied red wines. Located on New Zealand's north island, it can be described as having a maritime climate, similar to that of Bordeaux. Red wines dominate with over 80% of the country's plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. They also plant a significant quantity of Chardonnay and, of course, Sauvignon Blanc.
