Umbria

Umbria is a land-locked, hilly region in the heart of Italy. Most of the region's vineyards are located along terraces cut into the hillsides, and are reflected in several DOC names. Although production is limited, the quality is outstanding outstanding. Its two DOCG's are for red wine production, Montefalco Sagrantino and Torgiano Rosso RiservaIt also boasts 11 DOC regions, and another 6 IGTs. The climate is very similar to that of Tuscany-cold, wet winters and long dry summers with lots of sunshine. The region is best known for its white-wine production. Orvieto (similar to the Trebbiano Grape) remains the regions largest largest DOC and accounts for 80% of Umbria's overall wine production.
