Domaine Marcel Deiss is located in Bergheim, a small village nestling in the heart of Alsace, equidistant from the northern and southern boundaries of the region. The domaine is managed by winemaker Jean-Michel Deiss but the Deiss family are long established as wine-growers and are living at Bergheim since 1744. It consists of 27 hectares of hillside vineyards spread over 9 communes and approximately 20 kilometers. He tends his vineyards traditionally, usually planted with a mix of different grape varieties, as was the old way. Jancis Robinson has praised the domaine saying "When assembling all the white wines that have impressed me most, I found particularly high proportion of Alsace wines, with one producer outweighing the rest. Jean-Michel Deiss is one of those admirable of uncomprimising wine producers who really have gone their own way - and succeeded.."
