Muscat/Moscato
The Muscat family covers over 200 different grape varieties but in reality it is mainly used to describe the closely related varieties known as Muscat blanc à Petits Grains, Muscat of Alexandria, Muscat of Hamburg and Muscat Ottonel. These all share similar flavours, in particular a pronounced grapiness and when fermented dry. Muscat is well suited to making sweet wines and is common in Alsace, Italy, Australia and California.
