Burns Night 2022

Posted by James Holohan Monday 24th January 2022 0 Comment(s) Sláinte,

Burns Night falls on 25th January every year, marking the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns’ date of birth, with this year marking the poet’s 263rd birthday. The main attraction of Burns Night is the Burns supper, which generally involves three crucial elements: haggis, Scotch whisky, and the poetry about the man himself.

The evening then traditionally continues with more whisky and a recital of another Burns favourite – Auld Lang Syne – before dancing and general merriment ensues.

So, however you’re celebrating Burns Night this year, we’re here to help and have put together a few Scotch whiskys we feel will be the perfect choice for your evening’s merriment. Enjoy!

  1. Highland Park L Mulligan Cask

The latest in the Single Cask series by the award-winning Highland Park. This 12 year old single malt scotch was aged in first fill European oak sherry hogshead and bottled at a whopping 63.7%! Just 320 bottles were released so be sure to grab yours before they're gone!

ABV: 63.7% | €99.95

  1. Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman 2021 Limited Edition

Inspired by actor and comedian Nick Offerman, this 11 year old release offers peat smoke and maritime salinity along with honeyed vanilla and white chocolate on the nose. On the palate, the peat smoke continues with flavours of toffee and baked orange until finishing with notes of coffee and chocolate.

ABV: 46% | €155.00

  1. Arran Port Cask Finish

A fruity and powerful expression of Arran single malt that has been finished in the finest Port wine barrels. A great balance of sweet-fruity characteristics like their other classic Arran malts. Like all other Arran single malts, this is not coloured or chill-filtered.

ABV: 50% | €56.99

  1. Kilchoman Machir Bay

The flagship expression of the Kilchoman range, which is peaty with strong medicinal and maritime flavours. Having been aged in both ex-Bourbon and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks, expect a buttery palate with fresh cooked fruits and grassy notes.

ABV: 46% | €58.95

  1. Glenallachie Cask Strength 10 Year Old Batch 6

The GlenAllachie Distillery has released its much-awaited Cask Strength 10-year-old single malt! It is drawn from Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons, Rioja barriques and virgin oak casks which are hand-selected and blended by whisky industry veteran, Billy Walker. Bottled at 57.8% ABV, it's rich and notes of leather on the nose with flavours of dark chocolate, cinnamon, marmalade, and citrus fruit. Limited to only 6,500 bottles!

ABV: 57.8% | €76.00

  1. Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve

The Glenfiddich 15 Year Old is a uniquely aged single malt that has been aged in European, American, and fresh American oak before going into a 'Solera System' similar to those used for the ageing of quality Sherry. Once aged the whisky is married for a further period in Portuguese oak tuns. Silky smooth, revealing layers of sherry oak, marzipan, cinnamon and ginger.

ABV: 40% | €67.00

  1. Bowmore 15 Year Old

The 15 Year Old is Bowmore's heavily sherried whisky and has seen a period of finishing in Oloroso Sherry casks. This has given a lot of influence to the flavour of the whisky and make this one for lovers of big sherry flavours. Expect some sticky, chocolate, toffee and caramel flavours along with some roasted nuts, dried fruits and the typical Bowmore smoke. This goes really well with a few squares of good quality dark chocolate.

ABV: 43% | €77.00

  1. Auchentoshan 12 Year Old

A delicate and light version of Auchentoshan's triple distilled malt. One of the most popular whiskies in the range. Boasts delightful flavours of mandarins, toffee and honeysuckle flavours; hint of sherry adds depth and roundness with a little bit of spice.

ABV: 40% | €50.00
