Lá fhéile Pádraig sona dhuit!

Our national holiday and the perfect opportunity to crack open a bottle of something special to share with pals. Finally, for the first time in 2 years we all have a taste of freedom. So whether you’ll be celebrating in your local, heading to a parade or concert we think it’s worth raising a dram of something traditional (and probably a little Irish). When it comes to St. Patricks Day - we all know you can’t really go wrong with a quality whiskey. We’ve pulled a few that we think will fit the bill this March the 17th!

1. Redbreast All Sherry Single Cask - CWS Exclusive | €250

We are delighted to announce the arrival of the new LIMITED EDITION Single Cask from Redbreast whiskey, hand selected and bottled exclusively for the Celtic Whiskey Shop. This single pot still is tripled distilled and entirely matured for 16 years in Oloroso Sherry Casks. Bottled at 60.2%, single cask 34970 is limited to just 600 bottles.

Fancy making it extra special? you can personalise any Midleton whiskey with an engraved message (20 characters or less) for only €15!

2. Kirker and Greer Shamrock | €51

An expression from newcomers Kirker & Greer. The name Kirker and Greer celebrates the work of two highly regarded figures in bottling and blending in Belfast in the 1800s. This particular expression is triple distilled, marrying both grain and malt whiskeys in first-fill bourbon casks.

3. Grace O'Malley 18 Year Old Port Finish Irish Whiskey | €199

The latest expression from Grace O'Malley Whiskey. This 18 Year Old Single Malt received a port finish to impart sweetness to the whiskey's notes. Offers yellow flowers and dark juicy aromas. The nose is dominated by orange blossom, rich malt, blackcurrant, oak and nuts. Rich and complex with incredible port sweetness.

Poitin

We think this week is as good a time as any to be having a few drams of the original Irish spirit - Poitin. Poitín dates back to 1st century AD in Ireland, and is the precursor to whiskey. Both are distilled from malted barley and other grains, and both were known as fuisce in the Irish language. The word fuisce (pronounced ‘fwishka’) comes from the Irish uisce beatha, meaning ‘water of life’. This later became ‘whiskey’.

Okay history lesson over, here’s a few Celtic Whiskey Shop Picks -

4. Teeling Spirit of Dublin Poitin | €34.99

This release from the Teeling distillery marks the first new release of spirits from a Dublin distillery in over 125 years. This is essentially and unaged single pot still whiskey. It is made from a 50/50 mix of unmalted and malted barley which is fermented and then distilled three times in the Teeling's three copper pot stills. Great as an after dinner drink alongside a coffee but even better in your favourite whiskey cocktail where the relatively high strength will shine through.

5. Micil Heritage Edition Poitin | €55

Celebrating the finest poitíns of the past, when great poitín was considered superior to whiskey! The Heritage Poitín has been distilled from peated and malted oats and barley. Exceptionally smooth with warm, sweet, fruity flavours, gentle smoke and a nutty finish. Enjoy neat or on the rocks or why not pair it with some cheese!

6. Mad March Hare Poitin | €36

Mad March Hare is a fine poitin that is crafted in Ireland using only malted barley. Copper pot stills are used (not column stills) and these contribute to the clean and crisp nature of the poitin.

Looking for something on the sweeter side?

With the weather we’re having it might be just the ticket. Add them to an Irish coffee or drink them neat, they will always go down a treat and a good alternative to anyone who’s a little whiskey nervous!

8. Five Farms Irish Cream Liqueur | €32

A mouth-wateringly delicious cream liqueur that has been crafted from five farms in County Cork. Combining single batch cream and irish whiskey from the county, it truly is a liqueur that is from farm-to-table.
