Domaine Les Aurelles Aurel Rouge

75 cl

Unusually, there is no Syrah in the blend – For 2009 it is 75% Mourvèdre with 25% Grenache. The owner, Basile Saint Germain – inspired by time spent working at Chateau Latour – staked his claim fifteen years ago in assorted pebbly Villefranchian and basaltic parcels around Nizas and Caux, with the idea of reflecting this terroir through wines with purity of fruit and no wood influence. Both his approach to wine growing (including the use of “photo-biological” herbal preparations) and to explaining his intentions are meticulous. Rosemary George, Master of Wine, ‘Lovely depth and fruit. Very fine tannins. Some spicy fruit. Lots of nuances. A long elegant finish’. The 2009 achieves the highest mark yet for an Aurel Rouge with 17.5 in the Revue de Vins Du France. Yet another stunning wine from the South of France!

Robert Parker 88 Points. 'Bay laurel, fennel, ripe plum, black cherry, black tea, and brine in the nose of the 2005 Coteaux du Languedoc - along with a hint of reductive pungency - usher in a firmly but finely tannic , plum-fruited palate.'
