Equipo Navazos La Bota de Palo Cortado no 34

75 cl

This is wine is a Palo Cortado. This means that it lies somewhere between a fino and an oloroso. Some of the yeasts have died away. Expect the qualities of a fino sherry but with the warmth of an oloroso. Average age of wine in this bottling is 24 years. Just 3000 bottles were made of this fantastic Palo Cortado. It was sourced from Rey Fernando de Castilla and Almacenista Juan García Jarana. A powerful if extremely elegant Palo Cortado, cousin—so to speak—to release number 21 but with a different character, since it is sourced from oxidative wines.

Making Techniques A powerful if extremely elegant Palo Cortado, cousin-so to speak-to our release number 21 but with a different character, since it is sourced from oxidative wines. That is the other way to achieve a tru palo cortado: wines of remarkable finesse and expressiveness, with very complex nose blending aromas of amontilado and and oloroso, plus citrus notes of orange peel. Having tasted several hundred butts (most of which were untouched for at least five or six years due to the slow market)they spotted a few dozen that displayed true palo cortado character and selected six in the end. Those were further refined for a further few months 'a tocadedos' (filled up to within a hand's reach from the top) in extraction butts at Equipo Navos' storage altar within the cellars of Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla. The average age of this wine is around 25 Years.

Neil Martin (Wine Advocate) 98 Points Bottled February 2012 from Jerez, the Lot 34 La Bota de Palo Contado is described as a 'cousin to the lost 21' but sourced from oxidative wines from Almacenista Garcia Jarana. In the end, they chose six butts with an average age of around 25 years. It has a slightly more honeyed element compared to the Lot 37, with orange blossom, furniture polish, Satsuma and yellow flowers. The palate has a gorgeous, slightly viscous entry more accessible style, as the oxidative note is less pronounced, but no less serious.'
