Aberfeldy
Founded by John Dewars and Sons in 1896, Aberfeldy has always been one of the main components of Dewars blended whisky. The distillery has two wash stills and two spirit stills which were modernised slightly in 1972 when steam heating was added. It was previously owned by Diageo who released a good version in their flora and fauna series. It is now owned by Bacardi, who bought it in 1998. Most of the malt whisky made is matured in American Ex-Bourbon barrels and there are just a few official bottlings. The 12 year old is definitely worth trying and is a good quality whisky for the money. Interestingly, founder John Dewar was just the third person in the UK to own a car.
