Benrinnes

Benrinnes is situated near the site of a former farm distillery of the same name. The original distillery was founded in 1826 and was destroyed by a flood in 1829. Rebuilt in 1835 it then had the misfortune of being destroyed by fire in 1896! It was built again, then rebuilt yet another time in 1955 with further expansion in 1966. The unusual step of changing from double distillation to a form of triple distillation was made in 1966. This may have secured the future for Benrinnes as it remains a slightly unusual but bery tasty malt and has since become a key component in a number of blends. Sadly it reverted back to double distillation in 2007. With the only 'official' bottle being a 15 year in the Flora and Fauna series it is yet to be seen what effect this will have on the whisky.Benrinnes is owned by Diageo and currently has 6 pot stills.
