Linkwood

Confusingly there are two distilleries at the Linkwood site. The most commonly used one is Linkwood 'A' which was constructed in 1971, however the original Linkwood 'B' which was built in 1874 is still fired up from time to time. It is frustrating that bottles are not marked accordingly, although the vast majority of spirit distilled since 1985 has come from the 'A' side. Distilling at the Linkwood site started in 1825 when whisky making had only just become legalised, the distillery has changed hands only a few times over the years and is currently in the Diageo portfolio. There are four pot stills at the old 'A' site and six pot stills at Linkwood 'B'. It has a combined capacity of 2,500,000 litres per year.
