Mendoza
Mendoza is considered the most important wine-growing region of Argentina, with over 900 wineries located in the area. It accounts for almost two-thirds of the country's total wine production. By far its most famous and important grape variety is Malbec, however Cabarnet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Criolla Grande and Cereza are all also prominent plantings. The region hs a continental climate and experiences four very distinct seasons. The soil of the Mendoza wine region is primarily alluvial composed of loose sand over clay. Mountain rivers, including the Desaguadero, Mendoza, Tunuyán, Diamante and the Atuel Rivers, provide ample water supplies from melted glaciers in the Andes.
