Argentina
Argentina is currently the world's fifth largest producer of wine. The majority of it (60%) is made in the Mendoza region with Malbec leading the charge for reds and Torrontes for white wines. The terrain and climate are ideal for wine making and the country is largely disease free and there is little need for the use of pesticides. The devaluation of the Peso in 2002 led to an increase in foreign investment and helped to keep export prices down. We are now reaping the rewards with some top class wines that tend to be very affordable.
