Wine making has been an important part of Mallorcan culture as far back as Roman times, when the Romans first brought vines to the island. A large proportion of the region is suitable for vine-growing, however the best known wines tend to come from three areas. The most famous of these being Binissalem, located in the plains coming off the Tramuntana Mountains.Vineyards can also be found at the foothill of these mountains. On the eastern side of Mallorca lays Pla & Llevant another fertile region of the island.
