Lord Rutherford Barrique Chardonnay 2012

Excellent Chardonnay from one of New Zealand's top producers.Fermented in French oak barriques with 25% new oak, followed by a further maturation on lees of 14 months. Lemon yellow in colour. Spicy and oak influenced aromas of vanilla, fresh black pepper, nutmeg and allspice leading to more fruity characters of peaches, pineapple and cooked apples. The palate is dry and full bodied with quite a chunky mouthfeel. The acidity is well balanced and there are some very subtle tannins from the oak. Good complexity of flavours with roasted pineapple, cooked apples, grilled peach and lemon butter fruit characters followed by more of the spicy elements such as cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and allspice. Good length with a spice laden finish.

Awards and/or Press Quotes Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 5 Stars, ‘A refined Chardonnay, the wine combines pristine fruit flavours of white peach, grapefruit and rockmelon with subtly infused vanillin oak. It’s concentrated and focused on the palate with creamy texture and expansive mouthfeel, finishing beautifully long and linear. The wine is generously flavoured and multi-layered.’ Cameron Douglas Master Sommelier 5 Stars, Yvonne Lorkin Wine Writer 5 Stars, Neil Hodgson Wine Writer 5 Stars.
