Chardonnay

The native and main white grape of the Burgundy region in France. Chardonnay is one of the world's most planted grape varieties and can be made in a variety of styles. It has a natural affinity with oak and also takes on a pleasant 'buttery' taste when subjected to malolactic fermentation. Chardonnay prefers chalky, or limestone rich soils and also makes great sparkling wine, especially in the Champagne region where it is one of the three principle grape varieties.
