Chilean wine rose to fame in the late 1990's and early 2000's when good value wines made from Merlot, Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon flooded the market. Now the challenge for the country is to expand beyond the simple but quaffable wines we are used to and bring in more exciting wines. The expansion of vine planting into new areas is bringing in more variety and choice whilst the established regions continue to provide value and consistency.
