Maison Roche de Bellene

Nicolos Potel started his wine career as a winemaker in his family's estate in Volnay. He went on to build up his own negociant business called Maison Nicolas Potel. In 2005 he created a new negociant business called Maison Roche de Bellene. His approach involves purchasing top quality fruit from top quality growers. This range focuses mainly on wines from the Côte de Nuits area. The company has the largest selection of Grand Crus from Burgundy. This is all with the focus of offering the finest wines in limited quantities and being the only "Haute Couture" negociant in Burgundy. The origin of the name Bellene comes from Belenos, an ancient Gallic god of sun and beauty similar to Apollo to the Greeks or "god of the sun" to the Celts. The first name of Beaune City was Belena during the Roman period, then in the Middle Age Belena was renamed Bellene and Baulne in the 18th century to finally become as it is now "Beaune".
