Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris
This grape variety is currently very popular mainly due to the prevalance of good value wines from Italy. It is a very close relative to the Pinot Noir grape and when on the vine it has a grey/blue colour yet produces white wines ranging from light and delicate to rich and rounded. Pinot Gris is one of the noble wines from Alsace where it reaches it's greatest potential making both full bodied and flavoursome dry wines and richly sweet desert wines. It is successfully grown in various regions around the world incluing California, Oregon, New Zealand and Slovenia.
