Glen Garioch

Established in 1797 on the site of an old tannery. Glen Garioch is in Old Meldrum in the north eastern Highlands and is owned by the Japanese company Suntory. Up until 1995 a medium-peated style of whisky was made partly from malt made in the distillery's own malting floors. However, since then a lighter style has been made therefore there may be some variations between older and newer bottlings. In 1982 it became the first Scottish distillery to heat the stills using North Sea gas. Glen Garioch is pronounced 'glen geary' and operates three pot stills.
