Mortlach

Mortlach was the first of many distilleries to be built in Dufftown. It was founded in 1823 after the formation of the exicse act. For around 20 years a certain William Grant worked at Mortlach before setting up his own distillery named Glenfiddich. The distillery has a unique still arangement and practises a form of triple distillation. There are currently six stills although owners Diageo have plans to double capacity with an £18 million investment project. This coincides with the repackaging and 'premiumisation' of the brand which unfortauntely means that the price of an average Mortlach is likely to be higher in the future.
