Benromach

Much like Benriach the Benromach distillery was founded during the whisky boom in 1898 but closed shortly after due to the 'whisky crash' in 1900. Since then production has been sporadic with interuptions during the two world wars and many other periods of closure. Some stabililty came in 1992 when Gordon and Macphail bought Benromach from United Distillers (now Diageo), but it was not until 6 years later that the distillery was fully restored and ready for production. The distillery operates just two pot stills and has a relatively low production of just 500,000 litres a year.
