Cadenhead's Independent Bottlers

Until the middle of the 20th century there were many small firms that bottled and sold the pure product of local distilleries. Since Victorian times the firm of William Cadenhead has provided this service.First founded in Aberdeen in 1842, it is potentially Scotland’s oldest independent bottler. Most distilleries that exist today were not founded yet! Blending was yet to be invented, and there was not a single malt culture like there is today! However a diminution of public interest caused the small bottling companies to close down. Only a small handful of distilleries still remain in the ownership of their founding families and even fewer of the bottling companies remain active, William Cadenhead is one of the notable survivors. Recent revival of interest in the whisky from different single distilleries has caused a surge of new firms to emerge. William Cadenhead has a well established pedigree and the experience of over 150 years ensure that whiskey/whisky lovers can truly rely on what they choose to bottle. The company chooses not to ever chill-filter or chemically alter or add colouring agents to the products that they bottle. Each bottlings of whisky, and indeed of rums and cognacs, come from an individually selected cask. The company was taken overly Springbank distillery in 1972 and offices were moved to Campbeltown. 'Duthie's' used to be a sub-brand of Cadenhead's until circa 1994. The name of the range was inspired by Robert W. Duthie, Cadenhead's manager between 1904 and 1931. The brand wasn't used for 15 years, but these days bottlings are available again.
