Cahors

Cahors is an AOC which forms part of the South-West France region. It produces a red wine from grapes situated around the town of Cahors. It is most famous for its deep-coloured reds made from Malbec (Cot and Auxerrois) with a small amount of Tannat and Merlot also grown. Cahors wine is typically dark in colour and has a meaty, herb-tinged aroma with nuances of black cherries and cedar. In recent times Cahors has been producing richer, more opulent styles of Malbec, to compete with the hugely popular Malbec from Mendoza in Argentina.
