Jerez/Sherry

Sherry or jerez is the Spanish fortified wine from the southern region of Cadiz in the South West of Spain. All sherry must come from the sherry triangle, which is an area in the provence of Cadiz between Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlucar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa Maria. Jerez has been a centre for wine making since 1100 BC when it was introduced by the Phoenicians. Sherry is a fortified wine where brandy is added after fermentation. It is produced in a variety of styles, ranging from lighter versions such as finos to darker and heavier versions known as olorosos, all made from the Palomino grape. Sweet desert wines are also made from Pedro Ximenez or Moscatel grapes. These days, sherry is an under-rated and often misunderstood wine but offers exceptional quality and value.
