Ardbeg Corryvreckan

The Corryvreckan is a smoky and medicinal tasting malt that takes its name from a tidal whirlpool to the north of Islay. This one does not carry and age statement but is richly flavoured and probably contains a mix of young and quite old whiskies. The whirlpool reference is quite apt and there seem to be lots of flavours swirling around in this one. Very, smoky and medicinal.
This is bottled at cask strength, some people prefer to taste it without water but we reckon just a splash will help release some more flavour.

FAQs
Islay whiskies are peaty because the island's distillers traditionally used locally cut peat to dry malted barley in their kilns, and many continue to do so. Burning peat produces phenolic compounds, primarily guaiacol and cresols, which are absorbed by the malt during the drying process and carried through distillation into the spirit. The specific character of Islay peat, formed from decomposed coastal vegetation, seaweed, and heather, produces the distinctive medicinal iodine, seaweed, and maritime smoke associated with Ardbeg, Laphroaig, and Lagavulin.
