Happy Mexican Independence Day from all of us here at Celtic Whiskey Shop! The perfect excuse for us to sip on some delicious margaritas, indulge in some of the great Mexican food Dublin has to offer and if you like your Tequila & Mezcal neat or on the rocks, then we've done the groundwork for you, and picked out some of our favourites below!

 

While Cinco de Mayo remains the most popular holiday outside Mexico, today, the 16th marks their day of independence and is when the real celebrations begin!

 

So, be sure to read on, grab a bottle of your favourite Mexican spirit, and join in for ‘El Grito’ as they yell ‘Viva Mexico’ and celebrate all things Mexican. Salud!

 

  1. Patron Silver Mexican Tin 2021 Limited Release

 

Designed by Mexican muralist and illustrator Senkoe, this installation from Patron brings the myths and culture of Mexico to life. Made from the finest Weber Blue Agave and presented in hand-numbered bottles. Smooth, clear, and subtly sweet A perfect bottle for collectors or behind any bar or on the shelf at home.

  1. Montelobos Mezcal Espadin Joven

 

Montelobos is an artisanal mezcal made in Santiago Matatlán Oaxaca produced with 100% organically certified agave espadín. The pinas are roasted in conical clay pits and milled in a traditional mule-powered stone tahona. Wild yeast is then used for fermentation before being double-distilled in wood-fired 300L copper stills.

 

ABV: 43.2% | €48.95

 

 

  1. Patron Citronge Orange

 

An orange liqueur created by renowned tequila producer, Patron. Exquisitely handcrafted with fresh Mexican Blue Agave. A mouth-watering infusion of mangos, pineapples, and peaches to deliver a crisp and refreshing liqueur. A great replacement for triple sec in cocktails!

  1. Cabo Wabo Anejo

 

A brand that was famously founded by rock singer Sammy Hagar as a means to enjoy a house tequila for his cantina in Cabo San Lucas. Cabo Wabo is now owned by Campari and is distilled from agave that are around 8-12 years old. This anejo is aged for 14 months in oak casks before bottling. Golden straw colour. Offers flavours of banana meringue pie, honey roasted nuts, and sugar snap peas with a silky, bright, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a tingling, delightful, breezy finish.

  1. Los Javis Reposado Espadin Mezcal

 

This Espadin agave mezcal is made in Santiago Matatlan in the Oaxaca region. Each pina is roasted in a conical stone oven, crushed by a horse-drawn Tahona stone, fermented in the open air and distilled in traditional copper pot stills.

 

ABV: 40% | €60.00

 

 

  1. Tapatio Blanco

 

Distilled in the Los Altos distillery which is owned by Carlos Camarena. It was originally founded in 1937 by his grandfather Don Felipe and many of the traditional methods have been retained. This blanco Tequila is packed full of agave flavours and is rated as one of the top examples available. Lots of citrus type fruit flavours with a peppery bite along with green/minty herbal notes. A versatile Tequila that mixes very well.

  1. Ancho Reyes Ancho Chilli Liqueur

 

Made from Ancho chillies that have been grown on the hillsides of Puebla in Mexico. These are dried slowly in the sun before being infused with a neutral cane spirit for six months. Ancho Reyes is inspired by an original recipe from the 1920s. This can be served in shots but it also makes a great cocktail ingredient when you need a touch of heat and spice.

 

ABV: 40% | €45.95

  1. Del Maguey Tobala Mezcal

 

Part of Del Maguey's single village range of tequilas. The tobala Maguey is found growing naturally only in the highest altitude canyons in the shade of oak trees, similar to truffles. Tobala is smaller and broader leafed and is about 8 times stronger than other styles of agave cultivated by Del Maguey.

 

ABV: 49% | €132.00
