Quinta do Noval 2004 Vintage Nacional

75 cl

One of the World's greatest and most highly prized wines. This cellar wine will mature over the years and develop a complex variety of aromas. It can be drunk young to taste the intensity of its fruit, but best drunk 5-50 years after bottling. One to hang onto for a truly special occasion!

Nacional is quite an extraordinary wine from Quinta do Noval. It does not always follow the same trends as the rest of the wines from this producer. In some years, a great Nacional is produced when Noval does not even declare the Quinta do Noval Vintage! Other years, Quinta do Noval make a superb Vintage bottling, and the Nacional does not perform. And of course, sometimes both the Nacional and the rest of Quinta do Noval produce outstanding quality wines, however different in style! This was the case in 2011.

The word "Nacional" refers to the fact that the vines are Portuguese vines growing in Portuguese soil with no foreign root stock, and are therefore "attached to the soil of the nation". The vines are planted in a small area at the heart of the Quinta do Noval vineyard. Planted with ungrafted vines and untouched by Phylloxera.

Tasting Notes from Quinta do Noval
António Agrellos, Technical Director - September 2013 "Deep dark ruby with wild blackberries, violets and liquorice on the nose. Full-bodied with layers of concentrated ripe fruit flavours and tons of fine tannins exploding in the mouth in total harmony. A very long and powerful finish."
Fact Sheet
Fluid 75 cl
Grape Variety Produced using many grape varieties, not just Touriga Nacional, as the name may suggest. Also included are Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cão, Sousão and Mourisco Tinto.
Maturation Marked by an initial period of very hot and dry weather that preceded August 15th. It was then slowed by cooler temperatures and rain in the second half of August. After this period, with a very hot September and again with the help of two days of rain, maturation exploded in the second half of the month to reach high sugar levels
September-October The Harvest took place on September 20th until October 20th in glorious sun, with the exception of two days of rain towards the end. In general terms, the health conditions of the vintage were excellent which helped the essential sorting of the grapes.
Spring/Summer Bud Burst Occured mid-March followed by a quick flowering in the end of May due to high temperatures and lack of precipitation. The beginning of maturation occured early July, still without any precipitation and with high temperatures.

Vinification Made the same way as all other wines from the Quinta do Noval vineyard. Grapes are trodden by foot to obtain the must, then during fermentation macerate to obtain the best possible extraction in the lagares, the traditional stone vats from the Quinta
