A classic South African liqueur that is made using the fruit of the Marula tree. The fruits only grow on Africa's subequatorial plains and are a favourite of elephants who migrate every year to take advantage of this food source. The fruits are fermented like a wine and are distilled, aged for three years then blended with cream.

FAQs
Yes, once opened. Amarula is a cream liqueur made with African Marula fruit and dairy cream, bottled at 17% ABV. The relatively low ABV means the cream component will begin to degrade after opening, particularly if stored at room temperature. Refrigerate after opening and consume within six months for optimal flavour. An unopened bottle stored in a cool, dark place has a shelf life of approximately two years from production.
On the nose, Amarula presents fermented tropical fruit, caramel, and vanilla cream. On the palate, the Marula fruit delivers a distinctive sweet toffee and overripe mango character supported by smooth dairy texture. The finish is relatively short with light caramel and a faint floral note. At 17% ABV, the alcohol is barely perceptible, making it accessible but limiting its structural role in cocktails that require a higher proof base.
