Absolut is distilled from winter wheat grown in the Ahus region of southern Sweden, where the distillery has operated since 1879. The water used in production is drawn from a deep well on site. The entire production process, from grain to bottle, takes place in Ahus, which is an unusually rare degree of vertical integration for a vodka brand operating at global scale.
Absolut is bottled at 80 proof, equivalent to 40% ABV, which is the standard bottling strength for the core range. Several expressions in the Absolut lineup, including Absolut 100, are bottled at 100 proof or 50% ABV, which produces a more assertive ethanol presence on the nose and a longer, warmer finish. The higher ABV also makes Absolut 100 a more effective cocktail base in mixed drinks where dilution is significant.
Absolut is made entirely in Ahus, a small town in the Skane region of southern Sweden. The distillery sources its winter wheat from local farms within a 120 kilometre radius and draws production water from a deep aquifer beneath the site.
