Boann "The Crop" Vintage Mashbill Oloroso Hogshead

The Crop is a Celtic Whiskey Shop exclusive single cask release from Boann Distillery, crafted from a remarkable vintage Irish mashbill drawn from a 1910 Allman’s Distillery brewing sheet from Bandon, Co. Cork. This historic recipe brings together oats, wheat, and rye the three traditional Irish adjunct grains once widely used in early 20th-century whiskey making.

Matured for just over four years in a single Oloroso Sherry hogshead, The Crop showcases the deep, fruity influence of sherry cask ageing combined with the creamy, textured character of its rare mashbill. The smaller hogshead cask allows greater wood-spirit interaction, enhancing spice, richness, and complexity.

This limited edition bottling is a celebration of Ireland’s agricultural heritage and Boann’s dedication to reviving forgotten whiskey traditions brought exclusively to life for Celtic Whiskey Shop.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dark forest fruits, toasted oak, roasted nuts, sherry sweetness, and gentle rye spice.

Palate: Rich, syrupy, and full-bodied, with flavours of caramelised orchard fruits, sultanas, nutmeg, cocoa, and warming Oloroso depth. Textural creaminess from oats and a balancing spice from the oak.

Finish: Long, warming, and rich, with lingering fruit, soft oak, and a touch of grain-driven sweetness.

This limited release comes from an Oloroso hogshead filled on 12 December 2020 and bottled on 8 October 2025. Created using a distinctive vintage mash bill of 30% malted barley, 40% unmalted barley, 15% oats, 10% wheat and 5% rye, this whiskey showcases a uniquely layered profile that highlights both tradition and innovation in Irish whiskey production.

Bottled at cask strength, this edition has been selected as the exclusive event bottling for Celtic Whiskey Festive on Saturday, 29 November. Expect a rich combination of Oloroso influence and a complex mash bill that delivers depth, texture and character in every sip.
