Bollinger Special Cuvée NV

75cl / 12% Vol
Bollinger Special Cuvée NV

Special Cuvée is the signature of the House of Bollinger, and is the object of the greatest care and attention. It is made from wines from the recent harvest but the majority of the blend is made up from reserve wines from previous years. It is a great wine and embodies all the unique processes that are practised at the house of Bolinger to ensures wines are mades of the highest quality.

The blend for the Special Cuvée is an ideal version of the classic Champagne blend, using the different grapes of a given year from a variety of 'crus', with the addition of older, reserve wines. This blend necessarily incorporates subtle variations each year whilst remaining consistent to a style. It is, therefore, the hardest of all Bollinger wines to make. It contains the full expression of the Bollinger style and the House feels it should be judged on this - its benchmark wine.

Gilbert and Gaillard 92 Points. ‘Pale gold. Delicate nose revealing fruit with subtle oak and toast scents in the background. Fleshy substance, freshness and wonderful balance between richness and exuberance on the palate. The finish imparts a faint toast tone.’
Mundus Vini Awarded gold in 2012
Wine Enthusiast 92 Points
Wine Spectator 93 Points
James Suckling 92 Points. ‘A Champagne in good form, the nose has a playful contradictory nature with complexity that comes from deep within the DNA cast against some very fresh notes - lime citrus, lime leaf, lemon, nectarine, white cherry and deeper more brambly red fruits, plus gentle spices and freshly roasted nuts, all here. The palate has supple, smooth and creamy texture with a flavoursome wrap of fleshy peach and white cherry flavour. Smooth, deep and round, acidity holds fresh right through to the fresh almond finish. Drink now or hold for up to five years.’
FAQs
Non vintage Bollinger Special Cuvée has a drinking window of three to five years from purchase. Vintage Bollinger, produced only in declared years, can develop productively for ten to twenty years or longer under correct cellar conditions. Once opened, a wine stopper and refrigeration will preserve it for two to three days. Champagne does not improve indefinitely in bottle: the autolytic character and the dosage balance are calculated for a specific drinking window.
Bollinger Special Cuvée Non Vintage typically retails between €55 and €70. The Bollinger La Grande Année Vintage ranges from €100 to €150 depending on the year. R.D. releases, which stand for Recently Disgorged and are kept on lees for extended periods, command €200 and above. Prestige cuvées and older vintages carry significant premiums at auction. Prices vary by retailer and vintage availability.
Bollinger Special Cuvée Non Vintage sits at the accessible entry point of the prestige Champagne category, typically between €55 and €70 at retail. As a Grande Marque house founded in 1829 with vineyards predominantly rated Premier and Grand Cru, it occupies a justified position in the upper tier of the category. The house style, dominated by Pinot Noir and aged in old oak barrels, produces a richer, more structured expression than many competitors at the same price point.
Yes, without qualification. Bollinger is one of the most respected Grande Marque houses in Champagne, founded in Aÿ in 1829. The house style, driven by Pinot Noir from predominantly Premier and Grand Cru vineyards and partial fermentation in old oak barrels, produces a full bodied, biscuity, red fruit and toasted bread character with excellent ageing potential. It is among the few major Champagne houses still wholly family owned.
They are stylistically different rather than simply ranked. Bollinger is Pinot Noir dominant, aged longer, and produced in a richer, more structured style with brioche, dried red fruit, and nuts. Moët and Chandon Non Vintage is Chardonnay led, fresher, and lighter in style with green apple and white blossom as the primary notes. Bollinger is more suited to food pairing and longer cellaring; Moët is the more approachable, session appropriate expression at a lower price point.
