No. An unopened bottle of Rémy Martin Cognac stored correctly will not expire or spoil. The high ABV, ranging from 40% for VS and VSOP to higher for XO, prevents microbial deterioration. Once opened, gradual oxidation will begin to alter the aromatic profile over months and years, but the spirit will not become unsafe to drink. For premium expressions such as XO and above, consuming within one to two years of opening preserves the full complexity for which the price was paid.

A Sidecar, combining VS or VSOP with Cointreau and fresh lemon, is the classic Cognac cocktail.
