Talisker Port Ruighe

You would not think that Talisker and Port would go togther, but here they work very well here. This Talisker has had a brief finishing period in port wine casks which have rounded off any rough edges and given a nice, sweet fruitiness to the whisky. This one kind of creeps up on you as you taste it. Initially there' s the red fruit and chocolate associated with the wine cask then the smoke and pepper of Talisker really shines. The correct pronounciation for this is Portree, (it is named after the town of the same name on the Isle of Skye). For maturation a combination of speciallty charred European and American casks are used first before the Port casks are used.
