FAQs
Yes. Tanqueray is distilled from a grain neutral base in traditional copper pot stills with a four botanical recipe: juniper, coriander, angelica root, and liquorice root. The distillation process removes gluten proteins from the base spirit to below detectable levels. Tanqueray is considered gluten free and safe for individuals with gluten intolerance. As with all grain distilled spirits, individuals with clinically diagnosed coeliac disease are advised to consult a medical advisor before consuming.
Tanqueray London Dry's assertive juniper, coriander, and herbal character suits a premium Indian tonic with a lemon garnish, where the strong botanical intensity holds up against the quinine bitterness. The Rangpur expression, infused with Rangpur limes, works particularly well with a Mediterranean tonic and a slice of fresh lime. Tanqueray No. TEN, distilled with fresh whole citrus fruits, performs best in a Martini where the grapefruit, chamomile, and juniper character is experienced at full concentration.
Tanqueray is a London Dry Gin produced by Diageo, founded by Charles Tanqueray in London in 1830. It is currently produced in Scotland. The core Tanqueray London Dry expression uses a deliberately minimal four botanical recipe of juniper, coriander, angelica root, and liquorice root, producing a clean, assertive, juniper forward profile. It is one of the most widely distributed London Dry gins globally and a standard reference spirit for the classic Martini and Gin and Tonic.
Tanqueray London Dry is made from a grain neutral spirit redistilled with four botanicals: juniper berries, coriander seed, angelica root, and liquorice root. The deliberate restraint of the four botanical recipe produces a clean, assertive, juniper dominant character without the floral or citrus complexity of larger botanical bills. Tanqueray No. TEN uses a separate pot still distillation with fresh whole grapefruit, lime, and orange alongside the four core botanicals, producing a noticeably more citrus forward and complex expression.
Despite its London Dry classification and London heritage, Tanqueray is currently produced at the Cameron Bridge Distillery in Windygates, Fife, Scotland. The distillery is owned by Diageo. The London Dry designation refers to a style of gin production, not a geographic origin: London Dry gin can legally be produced anywhere in the world. Tanqueray was distilled in London at the Vine Street Distillery until World War II bomb damage prompted the eventual relocation of production to Scotland.
