COOLEY LAUNCH NEW DISTILLERY AND NEW 15 YEAR OLD BLEND! The first new Irish distillery in 20 years was recently opened by owners of the Cooley Distllery. On 19th March at the old Kilbeggan distillery an ancient and tiny refurbished still was fired back into life. This was the first time in 50 years that whiskey had been made at the old disitllery. Yearly production will be a meagre 250,000 bottles, but Cooley still intend to eventually fire up the old Tullamore stills that currently sit at the Kilbeggan site. We can only sit and wait for the new whiskey as it will be at least 5 or 6 years before any is released. In the meantime Cooley have released a celebratory bottle of Kilbeggan 15 Year Old. This is a limited edition of just 1000 bottles and is packaged in an impressive square/flat bottle.

NEW AND EXCLUSIVE BUSHMILLS SINGLE CASK RANGE We have just received our lovely new range of Bushmills single cask whiskeys. These were hand picked by us from many, many tasting samples at the distillery in County Antrim. Of all the casks we sampled these are the best, but it was a difficult job as the standard was exceptionally high! In the end we opted for a Bourbon Barrel, a Sherry Hogshead and a Rum cask.
Bushmills Single Rum Cask No. 16039, 17 Year Old, 53.7% €89.99 inc. VAT, (€74.37 ex. VAT) Sorry, this is now sold out! Very fragrant with aromas of coconut, marshmallow, cream and vanilla. The palate has a little sweetness and plently of fruity, creamy and spicy flavours. Approximately 280 bottles made.

This botting has a richly flavoured palate which starts off on the sweet side then evolves into a lovely spicy, oily and complex tasting dram. A great whiskey by any standards. One of approximately 300 bottles.

Cooley distillery is having a tremendous year winning 5 gold medals at the 2004 International Wine & Spirit Awards. Gold medals were awarded to Connemara 12 Year-Old, Connemara Peated Malt, Lockes 8 Year-Old, Tyrconnell and Inishowen. This follows on from their success in San Francisco where both Connemara's won gold, and the Connemara took the title of Best Irish Whiskey.
