Kilkerran

Kilkerran is the name given to the malt whisky made at the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown. The original Glengyle was founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, who's family have owned the Springbank distillery since 1828. Like many distilleries in Campbeltown it did not fare well in the downturn of the early 1900s and it closed, seemingly for good in the 1920s. However, the Mitchell family were keen to revive an old part of their history and in 2000 they bought back the buildings and began a project of restoration and rebuilding. Two old stills were sourced that had previously been at home in the Ben Wyvis distillery and other equipment was sourced from Craigellachie. The first releases of whisky have been all named 'Work in Progress' and they have so far been impressive.
