Rioja
The Rioja wine region is named after La Rioja, in Spain. Rioja is made from grapes not only within the La Rioja area but also includes grapes grown in parts of Navarre and the Basque province of Alava. Grapes produced in this region include Tempranillo, Viura, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo. Rioja is further subdivided into Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja. Traditionally, there are many wines that traditionally blend fruit from all three regions. In recent times however, there is a slow growth in the production of single-zone wines.
