Tokaji Aszu Eszencia 2000
A fantastic dessert wine from Hungary. Made from 60% Furmint, 30% Harslevelu, and 10% Zeta. Made using aszu grapes (shrivelled grapes) and macerated for several hours. Afterwards, the 'aszu' or 'dough' is fermented in oak barrels for 2 years. The end result is a thick, syrup-like texture, punctuated by vibrant acidity, with delightful apricot preserve and orange peel flavours.

Wine Spectator 96 Points | 'Fascinating stuff. The thick, syrup-like texture is punctuated by vibrant acidity, which helps to carry the apricot preserve and orange peel flavours. It starts out unctuous, then lightens up on the finish, where a lemon candy note emerges. Drink now through 2030.' |
