Cinco de Mayo is a day to celebrate all things Mexican (especially a good tequila or mezcal!). It commemorates the date of the Mexican army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 and has since grown into a day of celebrations all around the world. And with the big day drawing closer, it has us feeling thirsty, and so, we decided to write this blog post with our top Tequila and Mezcal recommendations to help you celebrate the day!

Salud!

1. Corazon Tequila Blanco

A refreshing and delicate Tequila with pineapple fruit flavours, a peppery finish, and some generous touches of Agave. Produced at Casa San Matias, a family-owned distillery with all the Agave hearts coming from a single estate in the Los Altos region. As with other blancos, this one works well as a base of cocktails such as a Margarita!

ABV: 40% | €37.00

2. 1800 Anejo

A superb ultra-premium tequila made from 100% Blue Agave from Jose Cuervo. Taking its name from the year in which tequila was first successfully aged in oak. The Anejo was aged in small French oak barrels for one year with a small proportion also being aged for over three years in American oak. Voted the World's Best Tasting Tequila in the 2015 World Drink Awards.

ABV: 38% | €56.99

3. Casamigos Reposado

Casamigos was founded by a group of three friends (one of whom happens to be George Clooney—yes, that George Clooney!) The aim has been to produce high quality tequila that can be enjoyed without salt or lime. Every step of the production process is controlled to give the best flavour possible. The agave pinas are slow cooked, then fermented longer than most at 80 hours. This Reposado Tequila is aged for 7 months in premium American white oak barrels. Soft, slightly oaky with hints of caramel and cocoa, silky texture with a smooth finish. Serve it neat, on the rocks or in cocktails such as a Margarita, Paloma or Old Fashioned.

ABV: 40% | €83.00

4. Clase Azul Plata Tequila

Clase Azul Plata is made from Tequilana Weber Blue Agave in the small Mexican town of Santa Maria Canchesda. Over 100 artisans dedicate their time to creating each unique bottle one at a time. Boasts a delightfully smooth flavour with hints of pepper, agave, caramel, and a pleasant hint of sweetness - perfect to drink neat or in your favourite cocktail.

ABV: 40% | €125.00

5. Del Maguey Tobala Mezcal

Part of Del Maguey's single village range of tequilas and one of the rarest mezcals made. The tobala Maguey is found growing naturally only in the highest altitude canyons in the shade of oak trees, similar to truffles. Tobala is smaller and broader leafed and is about 8 times stronger than other styles of agave cultivated by Del Maguey. Delicious fruity flavours of mango and cinnamon with smoky hints and a long, extra smooth finish.

ABV: 49% | €129.85

6. Montelobos Ensamble Mezcal

Made in the traditional fashion but from sustainably cultivated agave plants as opposed to harvesting from the wild. This is called Ensamble because it is blended from 3 different plant types: 53% agave Cupreata and 35% agave Espadin along with the tails from the spirit run of Montelobos Tobala. Clean and crisp on the palate, with delightful smoke and notes of pepper, lemon, and dried fruits that hold until the finish.

ABV: 45.3% | €59.95
