Campbeltown

Campbeltown was once a bustling epicenter of distilling. It was a convenient stop for boats en route from Glasgow to the USA, and there was also abundant coal and barley sourced nearby. Unfortunately prohibition and patchy quality saw the region's downfall leaving just two distilleries to operate for many years. Now there are three, with the survivors Springbank and Glen Scotia being joined by the reconstructed Glengyle (an old pre-prohibition distillery). Glengyle is owned by the same family that owns Springbank, a distillery that also produces a further two malts called Longrow and Hazelburn. Thankfully the quality of whisky made in Campbeltown these days is extremely good, and Springbank especially is sought after by collectors all round the world.
